GoldLink – ‘At What Cost’

Following the release of his KAYTRANADA and Jazmine Sullivan-assisted single “Meditation” and the buzz worthy “Crew” with Shy Glizzy and Brent Faiyaz, GoldLink has blessed the streets with his debut album, At What Cost.

The 14-track output is true to its D.C. roots and features fellow hometown heroes Wale and Mya, among others. It also features Irish trio Hare Squead on a revamped version of “Herside Story.”

GoldLink, who was featured on XXL’s 2015 freshman class, shines his brightest on cuts like “Have You Seen That Girl?,” “Pray Everyday (Survivor’s Guilt)” and “Kokamoe Freestyle.”

Ari Lennox – ‘PHO’

J. Cole may be on hiatus but his Dreamville camp has been putting out some fire music, nonetheless. Ari Lennox, an R&B singer from Washington D.C., recently put out her new EP, which features a guest spot from label mate Cozz.

Naming influences like Ella Fitzgerald and Whitney Houston, Lennox is looking to shift the expectation of female vocalist.

“Sometimes women are put in this box where we’re only supposed to talk about certain things,” she said in a release. “I want to be braver and riskier. I think people want to hear that kind of honesty and frankness.”
